The Introductory Keyboard Class is the perfect beginning for children aged from 4-7 years providing a systematic and enjoyable way for them to learn a keyboard instrument. Nightingale Music's Introductory Keyboard class will introduce your child to the fundamentals of playing piano and piano theory. The children learn how to read music and study music theory through playing games, note reading, rhythm activities, ensemble playing and focused keyboard instruction. The goal of Nightingale Music's Keyboard Program is to provide students with true musical literacy in a supportive, enjoyable group setting. Group Guitar In this intimate, relaxed group setting children will learn to play chords, to read tablature and to sight read music of many of their favorite folk and pop songs. They will learn various pick and strum patterns. A comprehensive introduction to basic music theory will enhance their sight reading and composition skills. The Star Wars Theme, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, The Yellow Submarine, Pachabel's Canon, and Jail House Rock are just a few of the many songs your child will learn and play well! By learning songs they love, the children master the chords, read the tablature and begin sight reading music very quickly. Group Drumming Let's Rock Drum Classes are for kids ages 8-14 who want to learn the fundamentals of kit drumming. Only 5 children to a class, each with their own snare drum begin learning hand/eye and body/mind coordination. There is a full drum kit set up in the classroom giving every child ample access to learn to rock!. Green Day, Beatles, White Stripes, The Who.....these are just some of the bands the kids will be drumming along with by the end of the session! Voice Class Voice classes are for the 8-14 year old who loves to sing and perform! From pop ballads, to traditional folk songs, to Broadway favorites, your child will love this opportunity to learn how to improve their voice. Breathing technique, stage presence and emotional connections are all emphasized in this fun vocal performance class! Strings Class Our brand new strings class will introduce your 8-14 year old to the violin, viola or cello. This class is a beginning level ensemble experience in which your child will learn a stringed instrument. Using a string curriculum created in Australia, this class will teach your child the violin, viola or cello in a non-traditional, yet challenging and fun way. Students learn correct position and posture and begin reading music right away. Nightingale is excited to offer this brand new string program! KEYBOARD CLASSES are taught by James Kerans, a graduate of the Berkley College of Music with a B.A. in Music Business Management and Piano. James has had extensive training in piano and performance for 19 years and has studied under many dynamic teachers including world-renowned pianist Dr. Gary Boerckel, Yamaha clinician Ross Ramsay, and Boston Pops Orchestra Pianist, Bob Winter. James is currently teaching at La Jolla Music and has over 40 private students. Nightingale Music is fortunate to have his extrodinary talent! KEYBOARD CLASSES are also taught by Brett Wagner, who studied piano and music education at San Diego State University. Brett has also studied at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood California. He has been playing the piano for 20 years and has taught private and group piano for over 8 years. Brett has played with numerous bands and is a freelance piano performer. He has opened for the San Diego Symphony at the Summer Pops Concert for 5 years in a row. Brett's extensive experience teaching children in a group setting as well as his incredible talent as a performer creates a perfect teaching style inspiring kids to love the piano. GUITAR CLASSES are taught by Daniel Crawford Daniel is a San Diego native and has been playing guitar since the age of 11. Daniel has his Bachelors of Fine Arts with Guitar Performance emphasis from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Under the study of David Tannenbaum and Marc Teicholz he aquired his degree in Classical Guitar. He now splits his time between teaching, recording and performing. As a teacher he has worked with hundreds of students of all ages and skill in both one on one and in class settings. Currently he splits his teaching time between private lessons and classes at Grossmont Union High School Adult Program. As a performer he plays in all genres from classical and jazz to rock and pop with a long list of musicians in and out of San Diego. Daniel's combination of focused instruction, fun-recognizable material and cool hip teaching style all translate into the perfect method for engaging young people to learn the guitar. DRUM CLASSES are taught by Nicki Carano, a San Diego native who has payed in bands all over the world. Nicki has performed with the United States Military Tours AKA and AFE in Africa, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Kuwait and Iraq. She has played everything from television specials, stage tours, musical theater, and industrials in her expansive drumming career. Nicki has performed with many bands including Nectarine,Groove Syndicate, Art Deco, R.A. Brotherhood, Get the Girl, just to name a few. She has taught at the Coronado School of the Arts, the Preuss School (UCSD) and is very excited to offer this new class at Nightingale! VOICE CLASSES are taught by Heidi Fairbanks Hachtman, Heidi has a B.A. in Fine Arts/Vocal Music from Brigham Young University-Hawaii. Heidi was a top 30 finalist and featured singer on the live auditions on American Idol in San Francisco and Seattle. She has performed with the Honolulu Oprea Theater, the Voices of Peace Benefit Tour which included performances at the Tokyo Opera Hall, the Meiji Shrine, and the Kyoto Palace. Heidi has taught priviate choral music and private voice for 5 years and brings her experience and extraordinary vocal talent to Nightingale Music voice classes. Her vocal expertise, gentle spirit and sincere love of children creates the perfect combination for teaching our young vocalists, poise, confidence and music technique. We are fortunate to have Heidi's incredible talent at Nightingale Music!
